Financial markets are in turmoil and people who have invested in mutual funds, IRA's and retirement funds have watched those investments entirely vaporize or their values decline steeply. Companies like Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns, who had been around for over 100 years, suddenly went bankrupt wiping out billions of investors' money and shocking the investment world.
